Details

Sapper S. B. J. Maycock was working with his section on minefield 830 at Wall Field, Broomhill Farm, Broomhill, Sussex. Work commenced t 09.30 hrs, just a little later at 10.05 hrs there was an explosion and Sapper Maycock was killed. At the time of the explosion Corporal W. Reynolds was working just three mines away. Along with Lieutenant P. Hennings, Officer in charge of the clearance team, they recovered Sapper Maycock’s body. The day previously Sapper’s W. Pidgeon and A. Wooward also died in the same area.

Son of Harry and Annie Woodward: Husband of Marjorie Woodward of Minskip, Yorkshire. Died on the 4th December 1944. Aged 34. Buried at Horsham Hills Cemetery, Sussex. Block U. Grave 252.
