    Mine Explosion Kills Two Soldiers.
On Saturday, at the Military Hospital, Totland, the Deputy Coroner (R. E. A. Webster, Esq.) conducted an inquiry into the deaths of Corpl. James Lomas, 29, of Todmorden, Yorks, and Sapper Leslie Pye, 26, of Birmingham, who were killed by the explosion of a mine on the beach near Yaverland. Evidence was given that a section of men were clearing mines from the beach when there was a sudden explosion, and the bodies of deceased were found badly mutilated.
An officer stated that the work was being carried out in accordance with instructions.
The Coroner recorded the verdict that death was due to multiple injuries when a beach mine exploded while the men were carrying out their duties. The Coroner added that the field was being cleared in a proper manner and according to instructions, and he expressed sympathy with the relatives.
