Son of John and Margaret Johnston of Longtown, Cumberland Died on the 8th January 1944. Aged 24 Buried at Salerno War Cemetery, Italy Grave II. D. 43 Note: Corporal J.A. Johnston died whilst dealing with a 500lb British bomb fitted with a type 37 pistol. Sapper’s F.G. Biddle, P. Carney Sergeant H. Evans BEM, Sapper’s W. Pearn, G.W. Rice and Lieutenant B.M.M. Sinclair also died at this incident.
