Died on the 19th September 1944. Aged 28. Buried at Doddington Road Cemetery, Wellingborough. Block 1 Grave 39. Note: Sappers J. Corcoran and S. Moore also died at this incident

    This is my Great Uncle Eric, sister to my late Grandmother, Evelyn Rose Dunham (nee Ashford) and Olive Ellen Ashford. I am led to believe that Eric lost his life in Leigh-on-Sea defusing an undetonated bomb that had been discovered near a Beach/Golf Course.

    Hi

    Located his casualty card it says Mine Field Explosion. Enquiry nobody at blame
    This means he was taking part in clearing the beach of British mines laid to protect against invasion
