Killed by a mine explosion, whilst clearing beach mines laid as part of the anti-invasion measures at Walton-on-Naze, Essex. Court of Inquiry findings drill for dismantling prime tubes generally understood and was being carried out to instructions appear to exist, as to procedures should an unusually light bung be encountered . The condition of the PBG in this particular tube cannot be ascertained. Opinion of 3 Bomb Disposal Group Group explosion was due to the presence of nitro glycerine round the bung. No one to blame.
