Captain Mark Plant

 

 

 

 

It is with great sadness to inform that Captain Mark Plant passed away on Wednesday 28th October 2015 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His family have lost a loving husband and father.

 

Our thoughts and prayers are extended to his family and friends from all at the BD branch at this time.

 

 

Saturday 2nd May 2015

Colonel Archie Archer GC OBE ERD

 

 

 

It is with great sadness to inform that Colonel Archie Archer passed away peacefully on Saturday 3rd May 2015.

 

 “Archie” Archer was the oldest living recipient of the George Cross (GC), Britain and the Commonwealth’s most prestigious gallantry award for bravery not in the face of the enemy.

 

During the Second World War, Archie had tackled well over 200 explosive devices, including those with complex delayed-action fuses that were designed to kill and maim. He was awarded the George Cross on September 30 1941.

Friday 6th February 2015

Major Stephen Hambrook

 

 

It is with great sadness to inform that Major Stephen Hambrook passed away peacefully at home on Friday 6th February 2015. Bomb disposal expert and Falklands veteran awarded the George Medal (GM) for bravery, Major Stephen Hambrook has died aged 81.  He lost his left leg below the knee after stepping on a landmine after he had put his life on the line hundreds of times whilst defusing explosive devices across the globe. He was decorated with the award of a George Medal, the second highest civilian award, in 1970 after defusing a World War II bomb discovered in London and in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 1991 he was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) Military Division for his work in the Army.
